Prices of Onion and tomato are expected to cool down in retail markets in the coming 15 to 20 days in hopes of the expected arrival of fresh crop, according to Agriculture Secretary S K Pattanayak.

As per the latest trade-data, onion and tomato prices are at the top range of Rs 70 to 80 per kg in the retail market of the national capital and in other major cities. However, this situation is temporary and the status will be improved, and it is definitely hopeful that a price correction will be seen in the coming days. Once arrival commences, prices will decrease, in another 15 – 20 days, it will be fine said the Agricultural Secretary.

It attributes that onion and tomato production has been adversely affected owing to unseasonal rains and dry spells in some parts of the country.
